He looks very much like he is taking life and all it has to show him in his stride. He might just be a little under par and simply taking in the millions of things he is now getting to experience. Keep going Carbon you are doing great :inlove:

He does look tired in that second video, rather than just wanting to watch the world go by - although it’s very likely there’s some of that, too. To me, it looks like a lack of energy which a normal young Lab would have. Whether that’s down to conditioning, his Leish or something else, I wouldn’t like to guess, but having a chat with the vet about it - alongside the great job you’re doing of getting him rather more streamlined - seems like a sensible option.

Is it hot there at the moment? Luna definitely gets more sluggish when the temperature goes up.

Yes, the vet is definitely the plan for this week. Along with letting him set the pace a bit more and shorter walks. Heck, if he wants to sit and cuddle on the sand with me, why am I resisting? :D

No, we're having ick weather. 17-18C, wind, lots of rain. Definitely not hot yet. I hope I can get some more weight off of both of us before the real heat sets in, or we'll both be panting!

Gave this a try on our shorter evening walk. I just let him look his fill and praised him when he continued walking. Doesn't solve the stamina issue, but it reduced stress for both of us, I think, and made for a more pleasant walk. Thank you for the tip! :)

I also wanted to note that in the video I filmed on the beach this morning, it looks like I am giving his leash a little jerk as I'm calling him to start walking again. I've tried to be very careful NOT to do that with Carbon, but it looks like I did it anyway and I only noticed it after watching the video. :( I will pay much closer attention to keeping the leash loose as we work together.

I’m glad you’ve got another vet visit planned just to check. It could be that Carbon’s using so much energy wagging that tail that he hasn’t got much left for anything else! ;) It’s lovely to see him enjoying life! Another great job, Emily!

His tail is just so HAPPY. What a boy. I could hear the thump thump thump, and my sound was right down. I really hope you get to the bottom of his stamina issue, it's sad seeing him so pooped.

Re mobile phones, I'm consistently impressed with the photo quality on the Samsung Galaxy. I have a Galaxy Mini and the camera is a hot piece of trash (you get what you pay for), but OH has had proper Galaxys for several years and the camera is impressive. They are not cheap, but still cheaper than an iphone.

Lovely videos. That one with the tail - the sound came out like some 70s sci-fi movie. It was very funny! And so adorable that tail that never stops. He’s one lucky boy to be with you.

I didn’t know there was the “sit and take it all in” puppy phase. My boy never did that. The world equaled race around at top speed with excitement!

So this is what you do when you are (A) unemployed and (B) having a feel sorry for yourself sort of a day...

...go to the beach at noon! :doug:

I took Carbon to the salt marshes with my new "Carbon exercise philosophy" which entails:

    (1) let him look at things and/or rest as long as he wants
    (2) limit on leash walking to 5-10 minute sessions several times a day
    (3) give him more off leash freedom in safe areas where he can be as active (or not) as he likes

The result? A LOT of silly zoomies and a dog who is discovering that - hey! - water is pretty cool! Maybe he is a Labrador after all? :D

I present a lot of puppy goofiness in a big squishy sandy black package...

    Sandy noses!

Oh my goodness, he is wonderful! I'm so glad I decided to check out the forum rather than finish replying to my work emails!

    Best procrastination ever! :D

It seems that just letting Carbon take things at his own pace is the way to go!

Actually as we drove to the beach, it was about 5 minutes of on leash walking from the car, 20 minutes of sitting and "looking", pretty much all the zoomies you see in the video, then 5 minutes on leash walking back to the car. So I think we kept the goal pretty well! But you are right, the zoomies were kind of 'out of plan'. :)
