Poor Murphy just can't seem to catch a break. Since starting his antibiotics, he has had diarrhea.

I started him on a probiotic and added some more sweet potato to his diet, but it doesn't seem to be doing much good as he's still suffering. Any other ideas of what to give him to help him out?

You need to change the anti biotic speak to your vet. Some dogs have this reaction to anti biotics there will be an alternative which should not give him diarrhoea.

And in the meantime make sure he is getting enough fluids - diarrhea is dehydrating. Add some chicken stock or fish flakes to his water to encourage drinking.

    What infection are you treating?

Thanks! I have a call into them already and will try again once they’re open today.

We’re treating kennel cough. He’s been drinking a lot (as usual) and I’ve been checking his gums and they look fine so I think he’s ok in terms of dehydration right now.

Years ago, our first Lab, Ginger was on some antibiotic for something. It apparently upset her tummy and she absolutely refused to take it no matter how we disguised it. She new better than us, and fortunately whatever she had, had run it's course.

When my boy had kennel cough, my vet also administered antibiotics. She said it doesn’t treat kennel cough, but it can help quicken the recovery in case there was a secondary throat infection. Kennel cough is a viral infection, which is why antibiotics can’t treat it. So if the antibiotics were causing diarrhea, I’d be keen to stop them.

Sorry but not completely accurate. Infectious tracheobronchitis, commonly known as kennel cough, is a canine respiratory infection caused by Bordetella bronchiseptica and canine parainfluenza virus. Bordetella bronchiseptica is a small, Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium of the genus Bordetella.
