Hi, Please see the attached pictures of my LOLA! She's 10 months now and doing great, we recently switched her to raw food after much research on the subject. From about 5 months onwards Lola has wavey fur, almost straw like! I just wondered if any one has encountered this and also if anybody has any methods of improving her coat! Thanks Bil ly
What raw food are you feeding? Is it balanced? Extra fat can be good for the coat. Butter, lard, salmon oil - animal fats are best for dogs, more omega 3. Coconut oil is also a good fat.
Harley has a thick and coarse wave of hair near her tail. Do you mean her whole coat or something like that. But @MF has given good advise. Check her food. Good luck.
Natural instinct working dog raw food She has only been on this for 2 weeks now, so it's not down to that. The wavey! Fur runs from her neck down to her tail but only on her back side?!
Could it be her adult coat coming in? The top layer of the adult coat is much coarser than the puppy coat. I wouldn't describe it as straw, but it can be very coarse and thick, sometimes wavy, especially along the spine.
Is it running waves in ripples down her back from her neck and shoulders? Can't see your photos but a lot if labs have wavey hair down the back.
I don’t know the brand, but I know that not all premixed raw foods are balanced or optimal blends. Some use a lot of ground bone or too much veg as cheap fillers. Which is why I DIY my boy’s food - he gets whole meat, organs, and meaty bones cos I like to know exactly what he’s eating. If you want to add extra fat easily, you could feed a fatty meat like duck.
My boy has wavy fur on his back, it’s pretty common with labs as far as I know, and it is coarse fur.
Yep, coarser hair in a wave along the back is pretty common. My girls don't have it, but my yellow boy does. Because his coat isn't "proper", he's fluffy on the sides and then has a darker, coarser bit along his back. It looks stuck on, like he's wearing a toupee.
