I've been catching up with this thread and loving it. Your description of Garfi in the dark reminded me of this very funny picture

I had to hide in the loo's here at work when I read about Moo. I've only been on the forum for a few months but I felt I knew her so well :(

Oh nooooo Paul, I'm so bummed for poor Garfield! That cat just can't catch a break.

I know. But to cheer you up, there's photo and video of the famous Moo in the Events section, in the Warwick/Leicestershire meetup thread :)

Until the end of time? :|

Miry (general miracle worker and Garfi's rescue person) knows I'm here for another month, but also knows Garfi isn't happy here. He's safe and well-fed, but he's not happy. But she's not been able to find another adopter for him and knows that time is running out before he has to go somewhere else that isn't here.

She's still using the animal communicator with him and part of me thinks that's a load of horse hockey but it's a little scary how often that lady is right about Garfi's change in mood. Before he was scared, now he's just downright peeved off all the time. Says he feels like he's held prisoner in his room because of the dogs. So yesterday he 'asked' (through the communicator) if he could come out to the rest of the house for the whole day. Miry gave me a baby gate for his room so that he could come out anytime that he wanted but the dogs couldn't go in to his area. He actually did seem happier during the day, watching me and the dogs come and go outside his door. Paul was a kind of manic all day about running upstairs to see what Garfi was doing (answer: nothing) but Carbon did a bit of just sitting outside the baby gate and keeping Garfi company. It was sweet. Well, he just wanted to find an opportunity to sneak some of the cat's kibble, but still...he was very polite about it.

Then finally at about 10 last night, Garfi snuck downstairs, I guess with the idea that he was going to see what was going on with the three of us in the sitting room. I was reading, Carbon was asleep, but Paul was wired for sound and was on top of Garfi before I even knew he was there. No biting, it was really just how he pounces on Carbon to play. But still, poor kitty. Carbon and I tackled Paul and Garfi escaped back upstairs to his kitty castle.

It's strange, because the first days Paul was here and Garfi was still the king of the sitting room, they got along just fine. Paul was very respectful and calm around him. Maybe part of it is that with Garfi shut up in his room, he's become this big mystery and source of mega excitement. If the cat was always just in the sitting room, Paul would probably still be very 'meh' about him.

Even with all the excitement, when I checked on Garfi before bed last night, he still seemed less angry than he has been in the last week. He was back on top of his kitty castle, his ears were in 'I'm bored but still here' mode instead of 'I hate you all and want to murder you in your sleep' mode and he wasn't hissing. The no hissing is a big deal as Garfi has sounded like a leaky balloon pretty much constantly for the past 10 days.

So we'll try the baby gate again today and see how it goes. However, I highly doubt that Garfi will venture out again. And can you blame him?

By the way, Paul was in psycho mode all night and is only now, at 8am, settling down. Most of that is my fault for not getting him enough exercise yesterday. He really was good so much of the day, but I paid for that all night long. I'll do better with him today.

Paul IS a sweet boy, but he's still a Bodeguero who naturally needs a LOT of stimulation. Carbon the couch potato is soooooo much easier!

I suspect there were a lot of us feeling the same way. It was one of those 'crying like a baby on and off' days for me and today seems to be following suit. @SwampDonkey did such a great job of writing about her that we all feel like we knew and loved her empress ways. In essence, Swampy has made Empress Moo immortal. I hope that she'll continue to talk about her and her Moo-ishness when/if she wants to.
Long may the Empress reign and I'm convinced that she'll stick close to her beloved monkey butler when she most needs it.

    Here's Paul's marketing package. ;)

All his best photos in his own Flickr album: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmeRxuuY

His own playlist on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOt6xVOh02bncgaJGX0Kr3rNpHmzSX-xe

And his description - this was written before the...ahem...'play with the kitty' incident last night:

Paul (aka Power) is a one-year-old petite (9 kg) Bodeguero boy who is full of personality. Everyone at the shelter says he just has something special and he’s a real standout, even in a sea of 90 dogs all larger than he is. He is good with male and female dogs of all sizes (his best friend is a 30 kg black Lab boy) and is curious but respectful with cats.

He walks well on leash and doesn’t pull, even though he is still learning some leash manners. In new situations and meeting new dogs, he tends to stand back a bit, assess the situation and then proceed with caution – which is a little unusual for a Bodeguero, truth be told. He is also not a barker, unless there is really something to warn you about.

Very true to his breed, however, he is a huge cuddler and once he’s had his fill of running about, will happily settle in on your lap for hours. Paul is currently in a private animal refuge in the south of Spain (Cadiz) but is ready to travel. He is Leish negative and has just been successfully treated for filaria so is just a happy, healthy funny little boy.

There are so many Bodegueros here, however, that he doesn’t stand much chance at all of being adopted locally. As his part time foster mum, it hurts my heart to think of such a funny, smart, affectionate little boy living his whole life in a shelter. I’m happy to talk to anyone who is interested and give all information that I can plus there is a chance that I can help arrange transport. Let’s get little Paul to his forever home!
