Been keeping an eye on the blue tit nest in the box on the shed, and up until today, we've only seen a fluffy nest. Today they have revealed 6 little eggs. Fingers crossed all goes well - I'll keep you posted.
Yayy! Keep us posted. Our swallows have arrived, very late this year, always feels like summer is on it's way when they arrive
How lovely ! The flycatchers are back here, and looking to nest in the climbing hydrangea that grows up my house. I was amazed to see a baby thrush last week and fully feathered hopping round after a parent being fed his worms. I don't know how they've managed to do it given the cold spells that came after they all started nesting, but they have!
Bang on time - 13 days after the last egg we have 4 (I think) hatched this morning. then the parents came in to feed them..
Tit update - they're not doing so well. Out of 9 eggs, I think 8 hatched. There now seem to be 5 chicks left. I did watch one poor runty one get repeatedly ejected from the nest, he's no longer visible. I don't know what happened to the other 2. Poor parents? Lack of food?
...and the demise continues - there were only 4 chicks this morning. I found a dead chick just a short way away from the box. They're due to fledge this Sunday, sad he didn't quite make it. There is a photo of it on this link if you're interested. I didn't post the photo here as some might think it distasteful. https://www.facebook.com/edzbird/posts/10216588303005284
We had two Great Tit nests and both fledged the last couple of days. Hilarious watching them try and fly off! Also have Barn Owls in a box, but no camera, but by the screeching we hear at night, they can’t be far off either.
