Thanks Karen. It's been hard over recent months. We always knew that osteoarthritis would be an issue and we've been lucky, and grateful, to get to 3+ when our consultant reckoned a year from the op at the most. My only concern is making sure she is comfortable and not in discomfort and remain positive in everything we can do and all the fun we have.
My boy had fragmented coronoid processes in both elbows. He had arthroscopic surgery in January and has healed 100% from what we can see. Recovery was about 10 weeks with specific walk increases every 2 weeks mandated by the specialist. He was about 15 months when he had the surgery.
Thanks for the update on George - I’m glad it all went well. Sticking to the recovery regime (with a dog who probably has other ideas!) is vital. I hope you begin to see some signs of improvement eventually.
Good luck with George. It's a worrying time but stick to the advice and gradually increase exercise. It Really helps.
Glad all went well and I hope George's recuperation goes to plan and he will be bounding about before you know it. Good luck. xx
Sorry to hear things have been so hard for your pup. Thanks for sharing the details, though, as it's all good to know. Yes we have strict instructions to keep him to short leash outings around the yard/garden for now, and will be asking our about hydrotherapy when we go back in for his follow-up appt next week. I'm so nervous that the outcome will be worse than he was before but trying to stay positive!
Good to hear your pup's recovery went well! Do you remember how long he was on painkillers for? We are at the end of his 5-days of every 8-12 hrs, and he's now supposed to get them 'as needed' ... he still seems quite sore (we will be calling our vet, but I'm just curious what others were prescribed).
Perfectly natural to worry - It's what we do. Stay positive though, he will be much better as he heals and his elbows feel better it just takes a little time to get there.
That's a good question...I think I was doing an NSAID twice a day for 1 week, I could be off on that though. He also had an injection of 72 hour numbing solution and received laser therapy a few times post op on his elbows. He recovered very quickly and never limped during recovery, but he actually hadn't limped pre surgery for a few months. (His initial issues were seen before we got him).
