No they’ve ruled out pancreatitis and any liver/kidney problems. They’re leaning towards stomach ulcers/inflammation at the minute x
We have had this with our Euan. He was very sick, no high temperature, but vomiting and lethargic. In a lot of pain. They made a X-ray of his tummy. Turned out he had an invagination of his bowels. My husband who is a gastroenterologist saw the photo (was sent to him) and confirmed this. They opened him up, nothing was found. He stayed for a week at the vets and came back healthy as can be. No one knows what it was!
Let's hope the scans and blood tests have scared whatever it is away! I hope Stanley recovers quickly.
Well I guess that is reassuring Jen. Trouble is, we like a "name" for things, and uncertainty is just unsettling. Just hoping he settles now x
I hope he feels better after his dinner and that things pick up. Did they give you a liquid they he can ingest to coat his gut and sooth it? Snowie got that from the vet, too.
It is as easy as putting a jar of full cream milk and kefir grains in a dark cupboard/pantry and leaving it there, shaking it up to mix it a bit every now and then, and a day or two later you have fermented milk/kefir. Strain out the kefir grains and reuse. It picks up bacteria in the air so it’s very much alive. Not sure self aware, but who knows - so much about us and how we feel is now being ascribed to the bacteria in our gut!
We’ve made it through the night with no sickness. Hopefully this might be the start of him getting better (please please please) x
He’s now got diarrhoea. Do you think that will be from the sedative? His poos have been fine up until today.
I’ve just done a 40 mike trip oh my lunch break to pick up some stuff from the vets to give him. Have to take him back tomorrow if he’s still got the runs. I’m about at breaking point now. I’ve started throwing up from the worry
So sorry. It sounds so stressful. I also get very anxious under these kinds of circumstances. Can your vet not reassure you? They found nothing, so it might just be a bug or an inflamed gut that needs time to heal. And you have your holiday coming up. Did you decide what to do?
They’re just concerned with us supposed to be going away, and as they don’t know what it is they don’t really know what to say I guess. They’re being so nice and supportive but can only do their best which I understand. We’re supposed to be going on Friday, we’re still in limbo with it to be honest. Just playing the waiting game to see how he is, if we’re going to cancel it i don’t suppose it matters how late we leave it. Hopefully our pet insurance will cover it, there’s cover on there for holiday cancellation if your pet is ill in the 7 days before you go x
It's quite common to have liquid poo after sedation or GA, Lucan always suffers for several days after. Hope it settles down quickly. Good to hear nothing obvious was found and fingers crossed there's no more sickness.
Is he on a GI food right now to help with the stomach upsets or just the pills? GI food always helps Axel tremendously
Yeah we’ve got some hills ID which is the prescription food so hopefully he will settle down. Luckily he’s with my mam today then my boss has given me an extra day off tomorrow to try and get everything sorted before I have to make a decision about our holiday
Oh good, such a worry with the time frame of going on holidays. But try to take comfort in the fact that he’s lively and wanting to eat and drink
