Feeling a bit fed up today. Red has been sick 6 times. DH said she ran off this morning on their walk (she’s been on restricted exercise since her spay) and she was eating something - thinks sugar beet but not sure. Anyway, it’s made her sick. We have decided to give her plain boiled rice for tea (DH said best to starve her but I don’t think I can do that).

Last week, it was conjunctivitis. The week before it was her licking the patch on her leg from her spay operation needing a prescription.

I know if she continues to be sick, we will need to go to the vet.......yet again. I really hate seeing her unwell.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that Red is poorly. You have my sympathies - I know how stressed I was last week with Jen. I would actually go for 24hr starvation rather than chance feeding and then she is sick again. Then very small meals of chicken and rice or my favourite nowadays, pasta gradually increasing size and longer time between meals. Jen went without food for 48hrs last week and it took me another 3 days or chicken and pasta to get a reasonable meal into her. As long as she is drinking she will be fine without food and allow the sickness to subside naturally.

You are having a run of bad luck health-wise aren’t you. Hope Red gets over this quickly.

Thank you @Jojo83 - your view fits with DH’s so will do this. Just found two more piles of sick in the garden so that’s 8 times now.

Yes it seems like it @Joy - I feel quite upset really as I hate it when the dogs are unwell :(.

Probably worth a call to the vet before it gets too late. Red might need the injection to help her stop vomiting. Poor girl.

Sorry to read this. Poor Red, and poor you. Did you speak to the vet?

No but I will ring in the morning if she is still being sick. Pretty sure it was sugar beet (I have looked closely at the sick , blimey the things we do!) and she needs to get it out her system. She is not happy cos she’s had no tea and just had a short walk and no treats - keeps staring at me with pathetic eyes . No sickness for a couple of hours so fingers crossed.

Ugh, it's awful when you are having a run of ill health with the doggies. Merlin had a really nasty bout of diarrhea over the weekend; now he seems to have a sore patch in his ear... sigh... AND he's eaten part of a rubber toy bone (I could kill my OH sometimes).

Hope Red has stopped vomiting by tomorrow morning and is on the road to health.

Hope Red has stopped vomiting now. I know how you feel about frequent visits to the vet. Sometimes I feel I'm not vigilant enough but I also feel you have to let them be dogs otherwise they'd have very boring lives

Hope Red is better in the morning. It is horrible seeing them poorly and not being able to tell you how they feel. If she’s not sick overnight I would try a little bit of boiled rice and see how she is x

Is she getting enough fluids? Making wees? That’s the most important. So, chicken stock, bone broth, or tuna flakes in water to encourage drinking.

Boiled carrot or pumpkin is good for binding and helping form a good stool in case she gets diarrhea. Anything high in pectin is good for firming things up - apples also good.

    Hope Red feels better today.

Thank you everyone for your support. She has been ok in the night and I gave her breakfast as usual. She has had her walk so hopefully she has cleared her system of the sugar beet. She has just had a big drink of water. Will see how the day goes.

Yes it seems to be such a rollercoaster - when they are fine it's just great but when they are not - such a worry.

Fingers crossed Red continues to improve.

Merlin is better - but Poppy now has the diarrhea, so clearly it's a bug and not something he ate.
