I didn't realise that those grasses were called foxtail (I thought Paul caught the scent of an actual fox, thought this was going in a different direction!). That must be so uncomfortable for him. What a pity that the vet couldn't get it out there and then. Good luck for today/tomorrow.

Poor Paul - that's really what he sounds like. A rusty hinge and an inebriated (and unhappy) nonagenarian. Usually he just sounds like a rusty hinge, but I think the drugs made him let loose a bit more. Luckily it was only in the car and he relaxed as soon as we got home.

It was kind of a rough night as he kept waking up and sneezing his head off, then calming down again. Poor Carbon finally decamped to the downstairs sofa as he couldn't take it anymore. That was a first!

I couldn't remember what they were called either and kept thinking 'cat tail'. And I really had no idea what they were called in Spanish to try to tell the vet what happened. I just kept saying, "He has a plant up his nose!".

You're right, sniffing up a real fox's tail would have been a very different scenario. :D

Thanks for all the 'poor Paul" thoughts (and my favourite from Jen, poor 'baba')...hopefully all goes well with his procedure this morning. If we're lucky, the hardest bit for Paul will be having to skip breakfast.

How is Paul? Catstail removed? Or was it a grass seed? Snowie once got a grass seed up his nose. Luckily managed to sneeze it out. They can be lethal if left undetected. I am now hyper vigilant come grass seed season. Hopefully the removal wasn’t too traumatic for poor Paul, or for you.

All well! Paul is back at home with (literally) a snootful of morphine. The vet said he couldn't figure out how he was so relatively calm all last night as it was such a big hunk of foxtail. Tough little Bodeguero! Now let's just hope I can get him to the UK in one piece with no further emergencies.

    The nasty culprit:

While Paul was having large objects shoved up his poor little nose, Carbon and I went for a walk on the beach. I'd nearly forgotten how easy Carbon is on his own - no pulling on the leash, happy to bounce at my side. I've been very worried about the effect on him of separating the two boys, but our little outing was a good reminder that he just soaks up the 1x1 attention when he gets it. So hopefully Paul going to his new family won't be too horrible for Carbon. And I know he's going to love meeting some special doggie friends while we're in the Bristol area, so maybe that will keep his mind off the separation as well.

Now both boys are snoozing on the sofa and it's back to travel planning and prep for me. Foxtail adventure over. :)

Well, I wonder who that could be?

I'm glad Paul is back foxtail-less. Poor boy, that must have been so uncomfortable!

Well, NUMEROUS doggie friends, in fact. ;)

But this a good point to (again!) thank Kate @Beanwood as she was instrumental in setting my mind at ease about Paul's new family. I don't know how much she feels comfortable with me singing her praises, but let's just say that she volunteered a big chunk of time and effort to make sure that Paul will be landing in the clover. :)

Phew! So glad Paul is OK...those foxtails are horrid things and can do so much damage! Some small consolation whilst Paul was drugged up to the eyeballs... (literally..) you were able to get some quality time with Carbon. Hope you can spend a little time yourself decompressing from the stress of it all! ;):)

Wow, that thing looks huge! Up his tiny little nose. Incredible. So pleased it was resolved with what appears to be veterinary ease. Looking forward to hearing about their future UK adventures!

How long are you in the UK? I'm going over for a flying visit the second week of July. I'm guessing you'll be long gone by then, though!

Bummer...I need to hit Germany by 26 June to avoid the school holiday rush and to get into my flat for the summer. So, yes...will be long gone by then and hiding from the holidaying hoards in the back of Bavaria! ;)

Finally the travel plan is coming together! The pup Tardis will be leaving Andalusia this Sunday, first stop the castle in Salamanca that I stayed at on the way down. At the time I thought how lovely it was but how much better it would be with a dog. Now I'll have TWO. This time we're staying in a converted moat room. I figured that would suit if Paul started to get 'chatty' on his first night on the road.

Then it's up to Asturias and the coast where we'll need to stop for two nights to sort out the boys' tape worm treatment (required for UK entry), then on to the French coast at Capbreton, then north to Angers, then Calais and then...Eurotunnel and UK here we come.

It's a lot slower than my usual pace, but I didn't think it was wise to push Paul more than 6 hours per day in the car. That little man could split my right ear drum with his rusty hinge routine if he gets fed up with Tardis life. Better safe than sorry! :D
