Our neighbour’s dog is being put to sleep today. She is nearly 17 and has kidney failure. Still drinking but not eating. I have seen this day coming and for several months now have been going over to let her out for a wee and a stretch (neighbours work so sometimes her days have been long).

I have just been for one last stroke and cuddle and managed to keep it together for my neighbours who are going to miss her dreadfully. Feeling very sad but she has had a good life.

    So very sad :(

Maybe send them a card in the next few days? I know when my brother in law had to have his beloved cat PTS, he was really touched to receive a couple of condolences cards, however batty that might seem to people who don't understand.

It's obvious she has been well loved to the end x

Yes I had thought I would do that. This morning wasn’t really appropriate to talk to them, just wanted to say goodbye to Poppy.

Thank you everyone for your kind responses. I know you understand. They are waiting for the vet now after giving her her last walk - feel so sad for them.
