We have an 11 yr old black lab, super mild tempered. We got a new puppy a few weeks ago and we noticed that on walks now the older dog literally urinates on everything, before it would be here and there but now it's almost constant, not to mention he will poop as he's walking, he has never ever done this before. He did this like 4 times on a short 20 min walk. He usually is a very private "pooper" doesn't like people watching, and never on a sidewalk or while walking. Now I was walking the puppy behind older lab and my husband, does this have anything to do with the puppy??? and what this could mean????

My first port of call would be a vet check as it’s unlikely a deliberate behaviour motivated by the arrival of the puppy.

Yes, I would also say vet check to see if there are not underlying health problems. When Finn arrived at our house Euan was 8. He tolerated Finn, not that they were the best buddies. We walked the dogs separately. So they would get equal attention. A bit of ‘quality time’...

Thanks, we will run it by the vet but he just went through a bunch of lab work and tests and he is super healthy but we will still ask them. Thanks

my lab did the same when we got our beagle puppy, he seems to urinate more on walks, however I think it might be because we lost our older dog before the puppy arrived and she did the majority of scent marking on walks and my lab would just let her, maybe because she's gone he feels more like its his job to mark the territory now? Maybe he's marking the territory for the puppy to see he is more dominant? I dont really have much of an answer, sorry.
