Sorry - long post. Brady, almost 2, is a delightful dog. He listens well and I realize we are very lucky as he is usually pretty laid back. He was socialized with other dogs at an early age and gets along well with them most of the time. We usually walk in a wooded area (with 4 ponds so lots of swimming!) and we see a lot of dogs. I usually leash him or have him sit until I talk to the other people about whether or not their dog is friendly. If so, I let him off lead and they play. I have noticed, however, that when he goes to play with other dogs he goes for their necks and faces. Tails are wagging, there is little growling, (if someone growls at him he backs off immediately! Just learning what the other dog likes, I guess). I can call him off and he usually comes running. Bottom line, is this neck and face biting dangerous or inappropriate play?
Here is some very normal dog play. Mollie, Zaba and Tatze one year ago. I have a command ‘enough’ when I’ve had enough of the hoolying.
