Season ,holiday aahhhh!

Hi I am hoping for some advice . I have an eleven month old lab who hasn’t had her first season yet. My plan was to let her have a season and then get her spayed. I am going away for a long weekend and am concerned she will be in season while we are away. As she is coming with us it won’t be much of a holiday for her or us if we are stuck in a caravan and unable to take her out.Every day I am hoping she will come into season but no luck yet

 

Btw I am booked for holiday on 13th July

 

There used to be a pill which would delay a season, not sure if there still is. As it affects the hormones, you may not want to use it. Perhaps phone your vet and ask for advice.

 

You can leave the caravan you will just have to keep her on lead and walk in not so busy places to avoid male interest. Even if you stayed at home you would have to do the same. I wouldn't let it stop me going on holiday x

 

Yes that’s true but I am wondering whether it may be just as easy to bring her spay forward. If I am just not sure about the health implications x

 

The time for a spay has to be carefully timed with the females hormone levels. I would speak to your vet.

 

Yes I,am a bit of a cynic though .My very has just changed hands and I am not sure if they will be motivated by health or profit

 

Find you one that you can trust,. It's a well know fact that it's better to spay at certain times.

 

When I had Hattie spayed some years ago I was advised by my vet to let her have her first season then half way to the second season have her spayed. I don't think I would bring it forward because of a holiday. Speak to your vet x

 

I find on holiday that Lilly is more on her lead than normal as I don't know the areas, whether it's safe to be let off etc, etc.
I don't think the exercise part would be a worry for me, but more the issue of how clean your girl will be - I know some are much better than others at avoiding drips!
Remember though, this is all whats, ifs and buts, you don't know whether her season will arrive then or not.
And your vet will likely be conscious of timing of the spay - if they are just money-orientated I would walk away.

 

I’m no expert but fingers crossed My dilemma may be about to solve itself. She has become darker around her lady bits ,she is a yellow lab and has a fox red dad . She seem to protrude a bit more too. No spotting though.But maybe with a bit of luck,’ she will do me a favour and come into season -
