I'm a new to this site, a new puppy owner and have a 12 week old yellow lab. She's a boisterous beauty but so far behaves well. I'm looking for a little advice on feeding and toileting her as her bowel movements have altered after a recent bout of diarrhoea and I'm not sure how to break the cycle. A couple of weeks back she would toilet throughout the day, going a little while after each meal. Following her vaccination the other week she had very loose stools so she went on a bland diet. This has resulted in her not pooping during the day and saving it all up for night time. She goes once/maybe twice early evening before going bed at 10.00 if we are lucky. I get up at 2.30am to take her outside but she is half asleep, wees and then refuses to do anything else before dragging me back inside to her bed. I then go to her around 6.30 and I am always greeted with a pile of poop in her playpen.

She is fed at 6.30/7, 12.00, 3.00 and lastly around 6.00 pm. We brought her night feed to 6.00 with the hope she would digest it before going to bed at 10.00 but it doesn't make any difference. She goes on 2/3 small walks a day and plays in the garden but nothing seems to stimulate her to go.

Before her upset tum she would get up at 2.30 and wee and poop before going back to bed but now she seems to have gotten in the habit of not doing it. She's great during the day, she goes to her playpen with no fuss at 8.30, comes out for dinner/walk/play at 12.00 and goes back in about 1.00 until 2.45. She always has a mad half-hour in the morning and evening when I get up or the kids/husband comes home so gets plenty of exercise. She generally sleeps on a off during the day and then flakes out around 8.30/9.00pm before going in her pen at 10.00.

If anyone has got any ideas or suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Her tummy will settle down. If she’s happy to do it in her pen and it’s easy to clean up I wouldn’t worry. We had a phase like this with Kara after an upset tum, it only lasted a week or so.

I would leave out the 2:30am toilet trip too if she’s half asleep - see what happens.

    :)

Thank you Boogie. I’ll know off the 2.30 and see how she gets on.
