Charlie has had a limp for a week or so but only when we have been playing or retrieving, so only on a turn that's when sometimes he whimpers then limps After an hour of so there's no limp. Obviously we have stopped and rested him for a few days, gave him Metacam and he's fine, tried again the same thing happened. When he is running in a straight line there is not a sign of it. I have checked his paw and it's fine. I'm wondering if it's more of a shoulder issue rather than his leg. Any thoughts or experience? Thank you. Off to the vet I think xx
Same with Rourke, he limps intermittently on his left foreleg, each time I take him to the vet (twice) they can barely see a limp and say it would take too many x-rays to pinpoint the problem! He has had it nearly 10 months now, can come and go on one walk! I hope you have better luck with Charlie at the vet.
Yes it's his left foreleg too. He is 7 1/2 years old so not sure what it could be, if anything, might just be a pulled muscle as he does tend to do everything at 100 miles an hour! Hope Rourke is OK. xx
Has he hurt his neck? When Snowie limped intermittently on his front leg, the vet suspected a neck injury (which I think was caused from a head halter and a horrible incident at the horrible school that insisted on its use). Thankfully it’s been years since then with no limp.
@MF I don't think so he seems just fine and I can't think how he would have injured his neck, he wears a back fastening harness. When he has a limp he lifts his leg and can't raise it very high which makes me think maybe more shoulder. x
Oh dear, it's such a worry isn't it? I think if a few days have gone by and rest and Metacam have not helped, then I would see the vet. Hopefully it's nothing serious, and the vet can put your mind at rest. x
Poor lad , and I agree with Karen , bit of a rest , Metacam and then Vets, in that order, fingers crossed for Charlie xxx
He had an episode on Tuesday and has been fine since then after a dose of Metacam and onlead walks. I am going to see how is goes tomorrow but if he's not right I will get an appointment for Saturday. I never stop worrying about Charlie as he is always in the wars!! A few more grey hairs for me xx Thank you.
Poor boy. Harley had this go on over a period of a few mo this. We had x-rays and they didn’t show anything of concern. She now has regular massage which has helped pre ent this happening again. Hope he’s better tomorrow xx
A few days ago Finn started limping also. My OH had taken him for a long walk, so I think it was muscle related. You haven’t make a long walk with him? Or has he perhaps strain a muscle by retrieving?
Monty kept hurting his hind leg and we’d rest it for a few days, it’d be fine and then he’d do it again. Vet told us to rest for two weeks and we’ve never had it since. If it’s a muscle sprain it needs time to heal properly and a couple of days doesn’t cut it, even if he looks and walks fine. Good luck.
Thanks for your replies guys. I have kept a very close eye on Charlie, he has had mostly on lead walks. We let him off lead to see if he was limping and there's nothing at all, not a hint. I have been watching him like hawk round the house and garden, again nothing. There doesn't seem much point in taking him to the vet if there's nothing to see. Maybe he hurt a muscle or sprained something just like we do, obviously we are watching him very closely and if it happens again I will take him to the vet with or without a limp. xx
