My 8yr old chocolate lad has two holes on either side near the arm pits.
I took her to the vet but they said it was tick bite. However
There is a black something inside and when I go to try and rub and look at it, whatever it is seems to borrow further inside of her.

Hi Margaret, welcome to the Forum.

I think if I were you I would be going back to the vet -- that doesn't sound like a tick bite to me. Are you in the UK?

How big are the holes? Is there any swelling? I've only ever seen warbles on cattle, years ago and the grubs are really big. I don't know if they ever lay eggs on dogs.

That sounds horrible...not like a tick bite to me.
I would go back to your vet for sure.

Google “warble parasite” - I had no idea either! Or botfly.

Warble flies usually bother livestock, but can occasionally affect dogs and are notifiable in the UK (your vet should tell the authories when they find one). They don't sound very pleasant, although grubs are white rather than black. It sounds like a burrowing parasite of some sort, definitely needs a return trip to the vet... good luck.

Ticks don’t move. And they are on the surface.

Definitely go to the vet. It sounds horrible and not something you should just leave.

Let us know how you get on - I've never heard of anything similar.
