Hi I've a gorgeous lab who is 12yrs old now I got her from the chorley lab rescue when she was 7 months old,the last few days she had been trying to clear her throat,so we took her to the Vet yesterday and he thought it was reflux so gave me tablets for that, since then she has had terrible diarrhea could it be the tablets?.

Welcome to the forum from me, Hattie 10 years and our rescue boy Charlie 7 years. I'm sorry your girl has these problems. I would think maybe the medication is to blame for the diarrhea as it only came on then. Could you ring your vet for advice? I hope she's OK. Helen xx

It could be coincidence, but you really need to speak to your vet.

Yes, PPIs like Omeprazole and Lansoprazole and Pantoprazole - there are others but they mostly end the same - are what we call "pro-kinetics" - this means that they encourage downward movement of things in the gut. Acid out the bottom of the stomach instead of up the gullet, and generally the bowel content gets shifted a bit quicker downwards as well.
Yup, there are other reasons for this happening too, but the acid tablet is a likely culprit. There are some other acid treatments that are less likely to do this, so definitely worth discussing with your vet.
