He is ALL legs. Which is evident by the amount of times he falls over them. He may be big but he’s also so clumsy! He runs in tables etc daily, lands on the floor and then gets up, shakes it off and looks quizzical almost ‘when did that get there?’

We have our first puppy class today - but still managed to squeeze in some LAT training! We even had a attic truck go past.. we had a mild reaction (ears went back) but immediately focused again!

    It’s 5am.

    I am taking no prisoners.

He woke. I carried him outside. Let him do a wee (a big one tbf) and then put him back in his crate. Daughter has exams this week so I have to try and manage the barking but weirdly (and perhaps because he knows I just can’t take any more :D) he has curled up again. He’s not asleep and I haven’t got back to bed.

It’s like a stale mate. Who will crack first lol

Oh no, you poor thing, I remember clearly being there and just how completely zombie-like you are feeling. I had overseas visitors so at 4.00 or 4.30am I would put him back in the pen and lie on the couch next to him begging him silently to just give me 10 more minutes....just 10 more minutes little Maxx....and then the whining would start immediately so I would have to trudge back outside with him to become his chew toy . Hang in there and I hope your daughter goes well in her exams

I treated Xena a bit like how I treated my daughter when she was a baby - they get to the age where they have to learn to adapt to your routine (within reason, obviously), and I had a very strict "the day doesn't begin before 645 am" rule. Once I'd weaned her off the 530am wee then it was "in bed until 645am", preferably 7!

I did exactly that this morning (the begging) I had actually convinced myself that falling asleep on the floor with your head using the wall as a pillow is a totally acceptable compromise.

I finally made it upstairs... got to the top step and then the little toad threw up. Literally the smallest, tinest amount you could imagine. I went back downstairs and i swear he looked at me and smirked.

    Check mate little buddy.

Sleep saga: Day 2047252 (or aged 13 weeks)

So yesterday, last wee at 11:30 we woke at 5.06am, had a wee went back to bed and just glared at me for 15 minutes, whilst I laid across the living room floor and ignored him. No noise but no going back to sleep either. When I went upstairs he fake threw up. Or he made the sound that he threw up (no sick was found - I’m convinced he’s an evil sleep stealing genius)

Today: last wee at 11:30, woke at 5:45 (ha! I’m winning you sleep sucking little demon) I will not mention that I woke at 5:15 and laid there wide awake waiting for him! Took him for a wee, put him back to bed (this time I got a disgruntled look and a token whine for 10 minutes but still no barking) we are now back to the stale mate where I’m sitting a bit further away from the crate, he knows I’m here and is laying down with one eye open.

My theory is he is currently humoring me.

I know he will win, he knows he will win. We both known it’s now the principle of the matter. I will not get up before 6:30.

The fact I’m sitting on a cold floor in a dark room at 6am is irrelevant. He is in his crate. Therefore it does not count as me being ‘up’

Ps I do realise this isn’t interesting to anyone but frankly there isn’t a fat lot you can do at 5 in the morning :D

I’m mentallly telling him that if he doesn’t go back to bed he’s not going to puppy play today. I’m not saying this outloud obviously bevause then I’m talking to him - but I’m thinking it and sending it over with mental airwaves :D

Mwahahahahha he has his eyes closed! I am winning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ironically it’s 15 minutes before he can get up but we will focus on that bit then my current theory is that as long as he goes back to sleep, it doesn’t really matter for how long as long as he gets the association with going back into his crate after waking up for a wee.

At 6:30 I went and sat on the stairs and set my alarm (ha who remembers when you needed an alarm clock ) for 6:32... when that went off I bounced into the living room, opened the curtains (frankly I deserve a bloody Oscar) and did the whole good MORNING you little ^}%#*#= (however I did it in an extremely cheerful voice so I reassure myself he won’t ever know exactly what it is, I just called him...) and then gave him cuddles and fuss... and then obviously food.

He’s obviously humouring me, you can almost hear him thinking ‘oh bless her, look she thinks she’s won... yet who was the one laying on the floor whilst I sat snuggled in my cozy crate..’

So this is the plan. With 2 kids (one of whom is doing exams, one who is ASD and who CANNOT cope with the high pitched barking) I cannot leave him to bark at the 5am interval but likewise, I cannot cope on less than 5 hours of sleep every night. I will gradually withdraw till I’m laying on the sofa (note to self get a new dressing gown because the %*+#{ puppy now sleeps with mine and hopefully as his bladder gets bigger the time will get a bit later naturally!

Look How optimistic I am. That’s coffee that is. Lots and lots and lots of coffee.

The absolute worse bit was when I went upstairs to get OHs dressing gown and he’s laying in bed WIDE AWAKE playing on his phone.

    ‘Oh I couldn’t sleep’

Just for clarity. I could sleep. I could sleep for hours. Maybe when weeks.

Oh god I could hibernate. Eat a pack of digestive biscuits. Curl up in warm dark
Room and then just curl up.

Yes, it will so soon be over. I remember cheating, getting Monty out of his crate, lying down on the sofa in the dark with him on my tummy, and trying to go back to sleep for another hour. It worked about half the time :)
