Oh no. First Puppy class was awful. (Very very long)

    I was trying to describe its erotic feline attraction in a subtle way. I didn't mean to make it sound more gross than it actually was, there was nothing 'on it' (to the best of my knowledge::oops:o_O:D:eek:

    Well I wouldn't go. You can find a better trainer. Training your puppy should be a happy time together. Like SwampDonkey said you and your pup don't need the abuse.

    Went to our puppy party today, there were two people there from the training class and both asked how I thought it went... quite nervously I felt. As soon as I said I wasn’t happy with it they both said they were not either

    Ahem. The latter. No choice.

    Just caught up with this one. You should feel extraordinarily proud of yourself. That was really tough and you did exactly the right thing. You are right, she is wrong, and you are Maslow's advocate.
    Well done.

    Oh no! Little Joy greets me every morning by lying on her back for tummy rub. It's our official start to the day. I smile at her and talk to her all the time and we have LOADS OF CUDDLES! She's a dear sweet gentle and mostly very good dog at just 14 months. Who are these people who are still allowed to train using such outdated and wrong methods? It upsets me to think of the knock on effect they can have on how puppies are brought up. Do they have to have a license to run this sort of training? Is it regulated at all? Do they have to prove that they are up to date with current training methods?Hmm, could rant on and on...

    Unfortunately not. Anyone can set up as a dog trainer, with no training, study let alone current thinking and training. There are several organisations in the UK and USA who have listed trainers that they in effect 'license' to be able to provide training and advice to a certain standard, which is based on modern science and is kind, fair and effective.

    Well can't you get together with other puppy/dog owners and train together. You can always do basic training at home and just socialize together on walks. That must be better for you and your pup, at least you will both be happy. Good luck

    Hmmm. OK, options are limited. But I really think you are a better person to train your pup than that trainer. Definitely use this forum for advice and support, and definitely find some other local dog owners who feel the same as you for group walks / fun / shared "training" sessions.

    Ha! While I've been typing I see that @Cath has said pretty much the same....sorry for repeating...

    Hi, I agree with @Rosie and @Cath, with help from this forum you can train him yourself beautifully. I think it keeps us more up to date than many "trainers" are :)

    If it's a choice between that and staying at home I'd stay at home. Get your books out go on the internet and look at stuff that good. Look in the site, research stuff you want to do you don't need that kind of thing and neither does your dog. Your dog your rules.

    The wonderful guys who run our agility sessions have this in great big writing in the banner of their website page.

    "I tried to teach my dog with books,
    He only gave me funny looks;
    I tried to teach my dog with words,
    They passed him by, just went unheard;
    Despairingly I turned aside.
    "How shall I teach this dog?" I cried.
    Into my hand he put the key:
    "Come!" he said, "Come play with me!".

    And that is why I love these trainers.

    I will help you no problem. You have already had great feedback.

    How horrible. No don't go back as this trainer will do more damage than good. I have taken my rescue dog to trainers before including very well respected gun dog "trainers" and an agility trainer. I left these trainers for outdated training techniques and awful handling, never to return. I have trained Charlie myself through lots of difficult issues only in a positive way, fun, continuity and love. Maybe you will be able to find a positive only trainer but if not learn from the experience on this forum. You know your puppy and what is best for him. I am sure some "trainers" get a real kick out of being bloody nasty. I am so sorry you have had to go through this and I hope Maslow is OK now. xxx
