I thought some of you might get a kick out of this. Cooper and our 11 month old granddaughter were on the floor together. Granddaughter would take Cooper's soft toy, and when she put it down, Cooper would take it back. If granddaughter pulled on the toy, Cooper would let it go, though she put her paws on it a couple of times and held on for a while. The toy went back and forth 4 or 5 times. If Cooper had been playing with us, she would probably held on to the toy, unless we told her to give it up, but she let our granddaughter take it with no argument. It was funny watching her pick it back up each time. Maybe I'll get some video next time. I am always amazed at how well both of our dogs read the situation with babies and elderly people. (I may be 75 but I'm not old yet)
I have a video of Homer teaching my niece how to play ball. She was about 11 months old at the time. He’d gently place the ball in front of her, she’d pick it up, he’d wait for it to roll out of her hand then pick it up and place it in front of her again. He gets excited and impatient when we play with him but was so gentle with her. They definitely know they are babies.
