Not at all unusual for a puppy to still be biting at 12 weeks. Consistency is the key. Raising your voice will more than likely just excite him so he'll bite more. Distracting is good but you need to act before the biting starts. Best advice tends to be to always have a toy close to hand ready to put in puppy's mouth rather than your hand. It does improve but stay consistent with your approach as each biting episode is a learning experience and learning is better/quicker if the approach remains the same.

Hi Jacquelina, I think every dog is different so I can only speak from my own experience. Ziggy was fairly bitey from the get go, latching onto clothing, going for fingers, getting overexcited and jumping/biting (proper biting!).

We just followed the usual advice, but felt that giving him a timeout was most effective. Either standing up and getting out of/putting him in his pen, just for a few seconds calmed him down.

I have been letting him mouth my fingers and swapping for a toy when he’s biting down too hard, I think it’s good bonding and reinforces bite inhibition.

As of the last couple of days he’s stopped biting completely. He does seem a bit subdued so could be down to a sore mouth I guess but it’s a welcome reprieve.

Hopefully you nip this in the bud quickly. My lab puppy is 19 weeks and is still biting hands, arms, ankles, etc. It is getting a little better but not much. My wife and I are very frustrated.

Our 13 week old has a "mad half hour" and she completley looses it and bites (not a full bite but painful enough!).

We just try to put a toy/ rope chew in her mouth and ride it out.

90% of the time she's great but 10% she's an absolute devil!.

Mine will be 16 weeks tomorrow and still bites sometimes, but not as much or as hard as he used to. At 12 weeks it was crazy. Hang on for abother 2-3 weeks it will get better. I know it sounds a lot but it goes by quickly.

thanks all, I worry for when I take him out people love a pup and he does get a lot of fuss I wouldn't like him to nip a child or adult for that matter, I will continue swapping my hand, clothes for a toy...

Our puppy is 15 weeks today and he still bites our hands, ankles, clothes, we keep doing all the things we are suppose to but it hasn't gotten any better either, it is really frustrating. Then when he goes into maniac mode where he is jumping, biting it's scary anything you can do to get away from him, if you stand there still he just attacks your feet, or what ever so if we put him in his crate (if we can actually grab him at that time) he starts chewing and tries to tear his bedding in crate, ONLY in that mode. We put him outside when we can when he's doing this but sometimes it's night and dark and we don't like doing that, I sure hope it ends or at least gets better soon.

I take our 14 week old for walks and if anyone comes up I warn them that the may get a nip if they stroke her, ALL of them have been dog people and said it's completely normal and expected!.

Of you pre-warn people first it's up to them to take the chance!.
