hi, Keri is my first Labrador, a perfect 4 months old chocolate puppy except she is scratching an awful lot since the first day we brought her home at 8 weeks old. She was fed Eucanuba by the breeder and I changed her onto raw over first 2 weeks, it was a varied raw diet, beef, chicken, fish, lamb (in the form of lamb ribs) and eggs. I fill her frozen Kongs with sardines mashed into sweet potato.
She gets wild salmon oil every day.
I wash her beds in Ecover, a plant based and mineral wash and floors (all tiled) are washed with the floor version of this wash. We haven’t washed her because she doesn’t need a bath and she is brushed down lightly after her 20 mins walk which is done on road and grass.
Our hard surfaces outdoors are power washed without detergent.
She has No rash, no redness or spots or hot spots and no hair loss.......her skin looks perfect.
Her eyes and nose don’t water.
She doesn’t lick or chew her paws.
She doesn’t concentrate her scratching on any one area but her back leg does seem to hit her belly more and the side of her neck.
I mentioned it to our vet, when she was 12 weeks old, who said the only thing he can think of is her skin might be a bit dry but didn’t see any dandruff. He vaccinated her, deflead and wormed her there and then.
I met some Labrador owners in a park a couple of weeks ago who said all dogs itch and once there’s no rash, etc, I shouldn’t take any notice but it’s hard to watch when we are walking, she stops every minute to have a scratch. She is worse with her harness on so I’m thinking the harness is making her feel more itchy. This morning I only put on a collar and then she was trying to scratch where the collar sits.
    At home she’s doesn’t wear a collar.
Today I got 3 weeks supply of whole minced rabbit, a food she hasn’t had and I’m going to get her onto that tomorrow.
Don’t know if I should stop the fish oil too.
I went to a holistic vet who gave her something and I’m to wait another 2 weeks before she will try something else as this clearly hasn’t worked.
Just wondering if anyone else has a Labrador like this.
I’ve had a Rott, A Golden Retriever and 2 Leonbergers before her, all fed a varied raw diet but no itching.
Thanks so much for reading such a long paragraph:)
