My gorgeous 14 month old yellow lab has recently started pooping at night. I have tried moving mealtimes / reducing last meal size etc. He is on a salmon and potato kibble very plain as he had tummy trouble when younger. His poop is very healthy in consistency and quantity.

Do you take him out before bedtime?

Perhaps he will begin to associate this with last orders so to speak.

How much are you feeding him? Sometimes splitting meals, and adding a small lunch whilst reducing the last meal can help :)

We had a similar problem. Ours was due to too much play. Zeke was so into playing that he wouldn't go. We assumed he did his business on our last outing of the night. We had to put all toys away and send the other dog in and then walk Zeke by himself and he learned it was time to do his business. It was kinda like the little boy who wets his pants cuz he won't take time out to go to the bathroom....

I wonder if they get a bit out of sorts during growth spurts?

We feed our girls a good 3-4 hrs before lights out. They both go out just before bed. Luna is 9 months and we just have to wait till she has been to the toilet before we go to bed. Luckily she goes for a poop straight after eating but having a late night wee can be tiresome as she takes forever
