I have a 10 month old chocolate lab. My friend told me I should be wetting down her food to avoid bloat. Is this true?

Hi there, and welcome to the forum.

There is some evidence that bloat is more common in dogs fed on dry food. But, that doesn't necessarily mean that wetting the food will help reduce the risk. The risk may be to do with other aspects of kibble rather than simply the fact that it is dry. If that makes sense. :). One study (abstract here) suggested that moistening alone is not sufficient to reduce risk and may even increase the risk in dry foods containing certain ingredients

There is more info on bloat in this article:Bloat In Labradors

Are you concerned because your dog has had a previous attack of bloat? Or because they have a relative that had bloat?

One of the best ways to help reduce the risk of bloat is to use slow feeders for all meals so the dog can't gulp down food. Then there is don't exercise or play with the dog immediately after a meal - allow some time and also don't exercise the dog and then feed, again leave time for the body to cool from the exercise.
