I'm a very lucky that I work at home and have not had the urge to leave my puppy now 5mth old in the house for any longer than and hour at a time. The thing is I feel it's me that's holding back! I'm scared of the mess and destruction that I would find when I come back! I can leave her in the garden but worries about her barking!
It's normal to be anxious, but do try not to worry. Just build up the periods of time that you are out slowly, increasing the increments over the next few weeks. Make sure she's left with a filled Kong or other nice distracting chewable toy, some dogs like having the radio switched on in the background too. How does she react when you go out for an hour at the moment? Are you seeing any signs that you think might point to her being upset when you leave?
thank you for your reply I've left her twice for a few hours now the first time she was really good. She didn't get anxious at all just looked liked she'd had a nice sleep Then the next time she'd found a bit of carpet and ripped it up and chewed her way throught he underlay Oh well you live and learn!
We have buddy crated but I’m not sure how we are going to approach leaving him. My friend has a camera that can connect to a mobile phone so you can see what’s happening at all times, you can even change the angle of the camera whilst viewing on your phone! They’re only about £30 I think so I’m thinking about doing this. You could just pop to the shop the first few times and monitor what she does while you’re out? Just a thought
