Hello everyone, So it’s been a while now since I posted about Shiko biting somebody. It has been delayed twice because Luna was in season and there would have been too much distraction for other dogs at the centre and the other delay was due to the behaviourist having a hospital appointment that she couldn’t miss. But it’s here the day of Shiko’s first meeting with Danielle the behaviourist. Needless to say I’m a bit nervous as I’m not sure what to expect or how Shiko will behave. Anyway my worries are shelved for now. Let’s go and see what Danielle can do for our girl. Wish us look xx
Positive appointment. Despite me crying after discussing what her main problems were and how it made me feel. ((I sometimes but not often think life would be so much more easier if we didn’t have our Shiko, but there’s nowhere in this world I’d rather her be. I feel very guilty for this thought even entering my head but it does and apparently it’s a normal reaction for many owners according to Danielle). So initially Shiko barked at Danielle and the male trainer who was also there. Both trainers ignored her completely and I was amazed at how fast she lost interest and settled. Luna on the other hand wasn’t phased at all and was on full puppy mode. We covered a lot during the 2.5 hours we were there and me and my OH heads were smashed with information overload. She’s emailing us all the information but we both felt drained on the way home with both dogs snoring in the boot. We learnt a lot of why shiko behaves the way she does and although not fixable completely there is a definite opportunity for her to improve massively. Which we are really pleased to hear. Danielle made a point of reassuring us in that Shiko is by no means the worst dog she’s ever rehabilitated and she is very positive that she will improve and respond well to training. Danielle also said the training we have put in place in the last 3 years we’ve had her is remarkable and not many owners would have continued down the road we’ve gone with her. Very positive outcome. Thanks for your continued support. X
Fantastic news @Tammy Cooke! Well done for the work you've already put in and for your commitment to Shiko. Best of luck with the training from here on in.
Really good news and well done you for being a good responsible dog owner,it's lovely to hear how much you care for Shiko and are doing all you can to help her
That's good news @Tammy Cooke . So pleased that the appointment with the behaviourist had such a good outcome - even though you are all exhausted. Shiko is so lucky to have you and will continue to improve with your help.
It says a lot that you are putting in so much work for Shiko - she is lucky to have you! Sounds like it went great. Good luck with the next steps!
