I bought a male yellow lab from Remington Labs, Simmerdown Odin was the sire, Remington 6 String the dam. The dog has gone deaf at 9 month of age. My vet discovered after an otoscope and xrays that his ear canals have closed up as his skull grew. He has a little hearing in his left ear and none in his right. He can't locate the source of sounds with only the one ear.

Has anybody else experienced genetically defective labs with hearing loss?

Hi there Steve, and welcome to the forum. Very sorry to hear that your puppy is suffering from hearing loss. It isn't something I have experienced in a young dog, but older dogs seem to cope pretty well. So hopefully it won't affect his quality of life too much.
