We have a 6 year old doxie-pom mix and will be getting a lab puppy (hopefully soonish, deposit is paid just waiting our turn). Anyhoo, I'm curious about resources for introducing the two and for keeping things safe between the puppy and the little dog (Wiley).

Wiley is an alpha. He does doggie daycare regularly so is use to being around other dogs though doesn't often play with the big dogs at daycare (he has been known to break things up if he doesn't like how they are playing with each other). We fostered an australian shepard for a few days once and the two didn't bond, but did totally fine with each other. We're intentionally getting a female lab too in hopes this minimizes dominance issues.

My thought is that since the older dog is the little dog he will be able to set boundaries with the puppy as she gets bigger and "teach" her how to play. I do plan on keeping an eye on them when they're playing especially as the puppy gains some size but maybe is still clumsy and unaware of her size compared to his.

Any tips? Things I should know or be aware of?
    Thanks so much!
