Does anyone know why small sores on a labs paw does not heal for a very long time (several months)? Taken her to a vet, tried antibiotics, several sprays, wipes, shampoos etc. - nothing seems to work.
Ouch! Sorry your dog is experiencing this, sounds very uncomfortable. Once a vet has explored the usual suspects, I would be looking for referral to a veterinary dermatologist. I am presuming that allergens (including diet..) have been explored? Any another symptoms, ears clear or other hotspots? What are your dog's nail bed like? Brittle or normal toenails.
Hi @Dave13 could you please provide additional details? Exactly what do you means by small sores. Located where? What was the vet's diagnosis? Where you required to prevent your dog from licking her paws? Does your dog exhibit any behavioural problems?
Hi - The sores are on her her paws above her toes. Typically the sores are 1 cm or so in diameter and are red and sometimes bleed. She was licking it but we have coned her to prevent licking. They don't seem to heal easily. One has been there for a couple of months and has formed a black scab on the sore. No behavioural problems. Her nails seem normal. Vet believes it is food allergies, but she has been on the same food for 3-4 years. Ears are good, but she did develop a small rectangular patch 2 cm bu 0.5 cm where her hair fell off and it started to bleed. Thanks very much - am hoping we can can get to the bottom of this.
Hi @Dave13 sorry I don't know what is the problem. I think Beanwood"s advice is worthy of consideration. Dermatologist a way to go. Must be very distressing for you and your dog.
