Hi I have just joined this site to look for some advice & help . We had a litter of 6 puppies in July they were all whelped with no problems at all . The smallest of the litter has had ongoing problems with her digestion. Faeces have always been soft to very loose these have been tested by the vets & have all been clear of any bugs infections or worms . She has had two lots of antibiotics & two lots of probiotics. Last week her abdomen became very distended with gas so vet took an X-ray , vet said this was due to her constant loose bowel movement. At the moment we are feeding her every two hours . The other thing that worries me is when she is resting we can see her intestines moving making rippling movements . She is well in herself usual puppy playing behaviour . Has any one had experience with these sort of problems before?
Hi Sharon and welcome to the forum. I am sorry you are having concerns regarding the smallest of the litter, and are very clearly worried, at this stage I would be talking the vet again regarding this puppy.
I agree, I think you need to see the vet again - or - if you feel this vet is not getting anywhere, to ask them for a referral to a specialist. One thing which you could try, is investigating her diet as a possible cause, more - I'm not sure if you've already tried that? She could have an intolerance to a particular protein (ie chicken, turkey, lamb etc etc). Usually, picking a protein she hasn't had before or one which is uncommon (venison) is a good starting point for that. Alternatively, some dogs really don't tolerate carbs very well - whether potato or rice or sweet potato... and all kibble has carbs in it, because that's how it sticks together. So you could try a raw complete mince, or Ziwipeak (an air-dried raw food which is more convenient than raw for some people) if you wanted to give that a go. There are canine nutritionists who might be able to help you further, if the vet feels they can't.
