    Hi all,

I currently have a black labrador retriever who is 7 this week. My friend cant look after her golden lab any longer who is 6 ( long story ), I have considered adopting her as really dont want to see this beauty go to the pound. However, I am torn as my dog is th only dog in my house and has not been spayed. Would they get on or is it likely a disaster?

Welcome to the forum! :)What a difficult situation, it is a shame your friend can no longer look after her dog, but this is real life and it happens. It is really good you are taking the time to really think about your decision and hope you get some good pointers here to consider.
How do the two dogs get on currently, I am assuming they are both girls (not that this matters..) and have been well acquainted already? :)

Hi, Thanks for response. The dogs havent met at all yet. Im not sure if I should give it a trial? half of me thinks mine would love the company and play mate. Other thinks thinks she may get jealous. really beautiful dog, friends so worried what will happen to he if it goes into a home.

I would plan to meet up for a walk with your friend and both dogs and see how they get along on neutral territory as a first step. They might get along great which will help your decision!

A meet up on neutral territory is a good starting point, but I would expect any two dogs to get on reasonably well on a walk if they have been well socialised. The dogs really need to also meet on home territory a few times before any decision is made. Having a dog visit for a few hours isn't the same as sharing a home, toys, walks and your human on a daily basis. I'm sorry if it sounds rather negative but introducing another dog into your home is a huge change for the resident dog and can take months for life to settle.

Maybe have a weeks trial? See how the dogs get on and if you like keeping 2 dogs instead of 1.
Lots of implications- Double the cost of everything!
I’m tempted to think why rock the boat? If your dog is happy at home with your family and her alone, then why take the risk? But then I only have one dog -haha!
