Our lovely little girl Lola is now 5 mths old and doing extremely well in her toileting at home, we have had any accidents for a couple of weeks now but we are still very vigilant. However, when we go out, she will not have a wee or pooh no matter how much we try and encourage her. We have been going over to Kirby Lonsdale once a week recently so we take her in the park for a wee etc., before we venture into the village but to no avail even though, it is evident that she needs to "go" sometimes.
Can anyone give us any hints or tips as to how to let her know that it is ok to go in different places.
    Thanks

We had a little bit of this with buddy, albeit at around 3 months. He seemed to wait until I got home from work. This wasn’t a huge problem but I can see that it could be for some. Only suggestion I have is to try to introduce a cue. When you know he is ready to go at home, maybe say ‘wee wee’s’ or something like that, and praise and treat, then this may induce it elsewhere. This worked for us but I’m sure there will be others on here with more/better suggestions.

Our puppy was very similar Annmarie, but after several visits to the same general area, she became more comfortable with the surroundings. It'll happen naturally in time.

I meant to say he waited until HE got home from work, with me, not when I got home from work! And yes, as Andy said, he got used to the area around my work also.

Hi our pup is 8 months now and still won't wee or poo anywhere other than our garden!

Hopefully she will at some point

Hi I think it’s really common, Bruce was exactly the same.

This is about confidence. For a little pup to toilet, they are also 'marking' and saying 'I WAS HERE' (in dog-graffiti!) - and a little puppy simply doesn't have the confidence to do that yet, in environments where she can smell other much more mature dogs have marked.

As the pup gets older, she will develop the confidence to do this. In the meantime, ensuring she always pees in the garden before you go out will help, and finding a remote spot where other dogs are unlikely to have been (like a field or hedgerow) will be useful in the meantime.
