Stopped today a local farmers market, and told quite sternly my dog needs a coat. Bruce absolutely loves the rain and likes to lay in the garden with a toy and chew it in the rain. Do others put a coat on your pups or not. Lee
Hi @leemyka just smile at such advice and ignore. The coat of a healthy Lab should repel quite a bit of the water. Just make sure you towel her dry when you get home, so that she doesnt sleep with wet fur. With a puppy I wouldnt let her get cold and wet. The breed was used initially off the east coast of Canada in very cold water. A bit of rain. Phooey. If you do decide to get a coat as your dog is a pup, observe your dog's disposition. Some dogs, but not necessarily yours, can shut down when hemmed in by a coat. Others feel comforted. Read your dog's body language.

I have a rain coat from my previous dog (Vizsla, who hated the rain or any kind of water being spilled on him, but loved to swim) and it fits on Mango. I used it twice. We had heavy rain in the morning and didn't have the time to towel dry him before going to work. He likes wearing it, doesn't bother him at all. But I agree, Labs don't need coats, they cary one all the time.

No, I don't use coats here either! Even when working/training them in the rain and even snow. I do use Ruff and Tumble drying coats though. I pat the worst of the wet, then pop on their towelling robe when they are in the car
I occasionally put a coat on Tilly and/or Cooper, if we are going to be out in the cold snow for a long time, especially if I expect her to sleep in a snow cave. In normal conditions I don't worry about it.
