Is it possible that my female dog has come into heat 4 days after receiving her 1 st hormone contraceptive implant ? ( we couldn’t spay her as she nearly died under the anaesthetic

Hi and welcome to the forum! :)

Sorry, I don't have experience in the implant for bitches, however, I have used the Suprelorin implant in my (male) dog. I have seen some evidence that suprelorin can induce oestrus due to the initial surge in hormones in female dogs. I would suggest giving your vet a call if you are concerned.

Thank you … I will see him tomorrow but as always these things happen on a Sunday and I was concerned after her operation nearly killing her and would not have done this if I knew it would start her heat

Well, this isn't an area I have expertise in, so your vet will be the best person to talk too.:)
Probably be best though to keep her inside or in the garden until you can get to the bottom of it, just in case she attracts a bit of unwanted attention.

What medication did she have implanted out of interest?

I don’t know I just trusted the vet who told me he had never had a problem with this before ,although now I wish we hadn’t done it
