I have just come back from the vet for a routine vaccination on my 13 year old black labrador who has been very lumpy for the last few years. On examination the vet said one of the lumps was a mammory tumour which are usually aggressive. She could have an x ray to see if it has spread and then an operation but said that quite often the cancers will come back.

She has had this hard lump similar to a golf ball for several months. I just thought it was her lumpiness.

She seems ok at the moment, but has failing sight, failing hearing and is generally a bit doddery. She eats and enjoys a little walk several times a day.

We are just devastated to have this news and dont know what to do for the best. We always said we didnt want to put her through an upsetting operation. At the moment she has started steroids which the vet said could reduce the cancer temporarily. Can anyone tell me what they have done for their beloved dogs?

Sorry you are facing this diagnosis. While she is still enjoying life simply enjoy it with her. She doesn't know anything about her condition.

Like you, I would be reluctant to put her through an op, but fingers crossed the steroids help to shrink the tumour.

    What is your girl's name?
