Hi, This is my first post today after finding this site last night. I've got both of the Gundog training booklets by Pippa and I have to say they are fabulous. Having bought trained Gun Dog from 2yrs old (now 10) I decided to get a puppy and have a go myself. Bey is 5 months old and doing well, Hups (sits), lays down (down), knows her name and comes to her name / 'Here' in the garden / kitchen except for one problem when out training. Bizarrely she doesn't always come on her name or 'Here' in the field but almost perfectly comes on 3 pips of the whistle every time - which is brilliant, the problem is she comes back so fast that she does a 'fly by' and doesn't come right to me. If I then walk on and stop again, pip her, she runs like crazy back to me again AND again does a fly by. How do I get her to come right upto me. I'm pleased she's responding by coming back but want her to come right upto me....help! Best Regards Dan
Re: Puppy Recall - Almost! Welcome Dan and Bey Have you tried standing in front of a barrier so she can't actually run past you? If not I'd give that a try.... I also try and steady Riley with my voice if he looks like he's going too fast....I'd much rather stay on my feet!! ;D Good luck, looking forward to hearing more of your adventures with your pup
Re: Puppy Recall - Almost! The labradors arriving nicely article is useful: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/?p=74, helped us anyway.
