please help..... We have an 11 week old chocolate lab now for 8 days. She toilets good outside but is still having so many accidents in the house. (Talking 10 already today). We praise her outside and make a big deal and ignor accidents in the house. What are we doing wrong? Since she was 4 weeks old she lived outside at the breeders with her siblings. Any advise gravely appreciated
So many new things happening for your puppy. Watch her closely ...take her out frequently to her "potty spot"and stick to "potty business" ..Leash works good ...keeps pup on task versus trying to play around when the purpose of your trip is to potty..... ..........just like little babies.....training takes time. Hi and welcome, my pup Isla had lots and lots of accidents indoors too,then suddenly it clicked and she's been brilliant ever since. Please don't think you are doing anything wrong, it just takes time and patience
my pup stopped somewhere around 12 weeks, like Saffy said , there is this "click" moment and after that there is no way to do it in the house. Just stay persistent . Wish you luck!!
12 weeks seems to be the magic number where they "get it" and if you are ten minutes late to take them outside they don't just let it all go in the house. Even then, there may still be an accident or two - but usually it is because we have gone too long between "outsides" for the puppy. So, even if you think the puppy has finally "gotten it", be aware for a month or so longer that you will still need to potty the puppy on a regular schedule unless you have one of the brilliant ones who will ask to go outside every time! (Our 15 almost 16 week old does ask to go out but it is never the same way - one time he will give a little whine; the next he will suddenly be demanding my attention, or he'll walk to the door and pace a bit - any of those and I am up and saying "let's go outside" so he knows to hold it for a bit longer.)
We are having problems with our 13 week old Lab and the House breaking. He was doing pretty good and now the last few days he took quite a few steps back. We have been taking him out about every 30 minutes unless he is sleeping. He can hold it for 6-7 hours at night. I understand its very frustrating.
