Holly has just passed her first birthday and is developing into a lovely dog. Most of the time she's well behaved, but when we take her for an off lead walk she sometimes forgets her training. If we run into other people with dogs she'll have a good run with the dogs then become very bouncy. She starts to jump up at people, and becomes so engrossed in the play that she ignores recall commands. Yesterday it took a new turn when we ran into some ramblers in the woods, without dogs, and she started to jump at them. I'd like to break this habit before it gets ingrained. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Re: Bouncy pup Much sympathy! Look forward to the replies you get - Charlie doesn't jump up with two paws anymore, he does zebeedee impressions with all 4 paws off the floor! (at least that stops him putting paws on people :-\). Just reading the how you lab can learn self control article on the main site. We so need it!
Re: Bouncy pup I know just what you mean At home Holly sometimes jumps with all four paws when she's excited.
Re: Bouncy pup Hi, Lilly was exactly the same when she was a pup, and sometimes still can be a little like that now (at the age of 3 and a half)! Maybe you could try her with the long lead on walks, teaching her to stay within a certain distance from you. We are working on this with Lilly and it seems to be going quite well. Just a thought Sophie x
Re: Bouncy pup I am an absolute disaster with a training lead! The only place I can use one safely is an empty beach or field (and I don't need one there). I walk in busy places, busy London parks and commons, and after wrapping the lead round ankles, dogs, buggies, bikes...I chopped it up. I'm honestly lethal with one. I agree they are fabulous for a training session in a field (but like I say, I haven't needed one in those circumstances) but on day to day walks - I honestly think I'd get sued before too long...
