Hi guys my sweet little 12 week old got dewormed Tuesday night at his vet when they said he had roundworm. I noticed Wednesday he passed a worm in his stool and then by Wednesday night his appetite picked up. This morning he ate around 7:30. He ate almost his whole cup of food for the morning within an hour he was so hungry. He went outside and passed another stool. Haven’t seen any worms. Then by 11 this morning he vomited. Something he’s never done before. Would the dewormer cause this? He’s otherwise happy and certainly has his appetite still. His vet isn’t open because of the holiday but I figured maybe someone else could share if this had happened to them.

    Hi @Kitkat729

    Welcome to the site.

Sounds as if he had too much to eat.

While I'm on the issue of food, I would not leave his whole meal in a bowl all morning long, at least that is how I have interpreted your query. As soon as he leaves his meal, take away the bowl.

I completely agree with Michael. Don't leave food out. Put out the amount of food you want the dog to eat. As soon as the dog walks away and leaves any, remove the food. No more food until the next meal time.

Even better: Instead of just putting the food down in a bowl, is to use it for training purposes so the puppy learns to earn the food. If the pup walks off and isn't interested in earning the food, stop training and remove the food until the next meal time.

It's important to create a food motivated dog so you create a trainable dog, and the value of food is something puppies learn from a young age.

As for the vomiting, I think he was probably feeling a lot better after being wormed and so his appetite returned - and he overate and puked it up... That would be my reckoning, anyway.

If he has just been dewormed and worms were found, you might want to worm again in 10 days, just to be sure you got them all...

Hi @Kitkat729 - I don't know whether this is the same thing or not, but our lab sometimes gets a few side effects from the dewormer we give her. She can be a bit lethargic and have slightly softer poos. As well as all the advice above, it might also be that she's had a bit of a reaction to the wormer - worth checking with the vet when you next speak to them.
