My 6-month-old chocolate lab ( blind in 1eye from birth) has become very food aggressive. Never was before.

Hi Patricia and welcome. Food guarding is very common and may appear for the first time as a dog matures. Fortunately it's one of the more treatable behavior problems - but it is important to go about it in the right way. Have a look at this article: https://www.thelabradorsite.com/how-to-stop-your-dog-growling-over-food/ and shout if you have any questions. Let us know how you get on!

Hi Patricia, A very warm welcome to the forum!

I'm so sorry to hear you've got this tricky situation to deal with. Hopefully it's just a phase, but as Pippa has said it's important to deal with it the right way or you can easily make things worse.

If I were you, I'd book an appointment with a behaviorist who uses exclusively positive reinforcement methods. Your vet will hopefully have contact details for someone local to you.

Do let us know how you get along :)

Any sudden change like this is important to check out. Can you give us more details about the food guarding and the situations it happens in, what you are doing, what the dog is doing, how the dog reacts etc etc?
