    Hello All,

My 6 month puppy has had some missing hair near his whiskers for about a month now. Nothing too crazy, but noticeable. I just figured it was from him itching near his nose, but since it didn’t go away, I took him to the vet today and showed the vet where he was missing the hair.

I’m glad I did. They took a skin sample and said he has demodectic mange from his mother when she gave birth to him. The vet said that if you don’t catch it early, you have to give weekly baths to your dog with special medical shampoo or something that costs 75 dollars per week.

They gave us 6 tablets of tick medicine that will treat the mange and we have to give it to him once a month for six months. The vet did say that his hair should start to grow back in time with this treatment. We have another check up appointment in a month.

Now to my question, has anyone dealt with treating demodectic mange with their dog or have knowledge on the subject? If yes, Any advice or suggestions on the topic? My thought is that the mange will clear up with this medication and I’m hoping it’s not a long term issue since it was found early. I just want his hair to grow back normally the way it was. Thank you.

Good thing you thought to get it checked out, like you I think i'd have assumed it wasn't anything significant. Hopefully the treatment will work nice and quickly.

I don't have any personal experience of mange, but we do have an article looking at it on the main site here.

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. Let us know how he gets on!
