Hello, just thought I'd get your opinions on what might be the issue with my boy Lucius. He has been vomiting since 8pm and hasnt stopped, our vet told us when he gets like this as he has a sensitive tummy we need to give him water little and often. after he was sick the first time he drank a small amount of water then was sick again, bringing up his water and a lot of mucus. An hour later we tried again, and a minute later he was sick again twice. He's brought up all his dinner which hadnt been digested at all from 5pm and brought up all the water he has been given. He hasnt been sick in a while and I thought that finally his tummy was settling but it seems not to be the case. He is on a strict wheat free, gluten free and beef free diet as he has many allergies. He has a history of gastritis and gastroenteritis ( i think that was the name i'm not sure though). Any thoughts? By the way if his condition does not improve he will be seeing his vet - we are hesitant to take him to an emergency vet as they dont know his medical history as well as our vet who is brilliant with him but if we need to we will. Poor little man feeling sorry for himself.
Poor Lucius. I hope he is better soon. My only thoughts are to try to keep his fluids up as much as you can. You could try ice as well as small amounts of water, often. We are currently dealing with a human gastro outbreak in my house. A week after Chewie ate something on a walk and gave himself the squirts. It has been a fun couple of weeks...
Poor Lucius! Hope he's feeling a little better by now. My eldest Lab Lucan suffers with inflammatory bowel disease which affects his stomach and small intestine, his symptoms are vomiting attacks, sometimes projectile, where he brings up lots of sticky mucus occasionally containing specs of blood. Has your vet suggested trying a hydrolyzed food? Lucan is on Royal Canin Hypoallergenic DR21 which contains no meat at all, along with his daily ranitidine tablets it's really helped to keep him stable for the last few years, and although expensive has probably saved me hundreds in vets bills. Hills and Pro Plan do these specialised diets too.
Hello! Sorry for the late reply been busy with christmas and ongoing Lucius health issues, his vomiting subsided within a day but we kept him to rice and chicken for a few days, gradually adding his food into the mix. After hours of him not keeping water down we tried sugar water (a small bowl of boiled water - cold - with a teaspoon of sugar) my grandmother said she used this on her dogs when they couldnt keep water down. I'm not sure if it was the sugar water or not but after the second small bowl half filled he managed to keep it down for the rest of the night, I slept downstairs with him just in case but he seems to have calmed down. We think he was sick because he has been drinking a lot of water recently and maybe drank too much? The vet said that since he was fine the next day he didnt need any antibiotics and just to keep an eye on him, but we're just assuming he ate something he shouldnt have as he does like to lick off the floor.
Hmm. If it was the water, then it was the bug that was in it. It wouldn't be the quantity. Glad to hear he is better. Gorgeous looking dog.
