    Hi there,
We picked up our newest addition Rosie last Friday, and so far it has been a tiring, busy week with all the biting (OMG make it stoppppp!) and all the busy-ness a puppy brings. Rosie is my second Lab so I know what I'm in for, but I don't recall Daisy being such a biter as a pup!

Anyways, my question is - how long can an 8 week old pup go between potty breaks at night? We have been taking her out at 9:30 pm, 12:00 am, and 3:30 am. She hasn't had any accidents at night. We have been setting alarms and waking her up instead of waiting for her to cry. She is usually still quiet and sleeping when I get her up in morning after 7:00 am.

Just can't remember how long we will need to keep up this schedule for. :)

    Thanks!

Hi, I am like you on my second pup and I don't remember my first girl biting and chewing everything! Either we've forgotten or both got far more active pups.

We left our new pup to wake us if she needed to go out, she would stir in her crate and as I sleep light I would get up and let her out. She only did this for a couple of weeks and then stopped, she slept f from 11-7.30 and had never had an accident at night. Good luck

Our nearly 11 week old lab pup is definitely a crocodile in disguise and getting bother by the day - In fact I think he bites more cos he knows he’ll get called away to sit for a treat !
The first 3 nights I let him out around 3am ( because he was whining ) after him going to bed at 23:30 then I got up to him at 5 am for a few mornings even though he hadn’t cried and then 5:15 , 5:30 etc over the next few days until 6:30 when we usually get up and we’ve never had any accidents in his bed / crate yet - this morning I overslept and woke at 7 and thought I’d be in for a puddle but he was chilling in bed waiting patiently for me.

Good luck with your pup I think if you left her til 4 then 5 hen 6 over the next few days she’d probably be fine :)
    Ps I’m no expert though
    Helen :)

I personally never set an alarm and once i went to bed between 11/12 he was taken for his last toilet and he has never had an accident in his crate. From going to sleep at night he would go til 6/7am depending on day of week if I had work. If he cried i would have took him out though obviously before. We are 4 months now and dont have accidents in house for a while now. As for biting I did think for a while id find nicer sharks in the ocean but we are making progress and definately using the tugs and identifying he was tired/over stimulated and using crate time for calm was biggest influence of change. As other said no expert though and learning every day.

    Thanks for the responses!

Rosie got me good late this afternoon- chomped down on my arm. Bled like a stuck pig . Any advice or ideas on curbing this would be much appreciated! I understand this is typical lab pup behavior but man oh man it’s frustrating and painful

I think I will try to move her potty breaks to 4:00 am and if all is well for few days I’ll move it forward again. It will be nice to get a full nights sleep again.

A rough guide is that a puppy can hold her bladder for one hour for every month of age.

About the biting. Get her interested in redirecting her bite onto a tug rope. Carry the rope with you all the time when with the dog. Pretend the tug toy is an animal trying to escape her. Animate it on the floor. Let her win tug too. So she gets a reward from biting on the toy rather than you. Once she understands the game and while she is learning it, if she bites it stops. Do not leave the toy out for her to play with it. You and you alone are the source of this wonderful toy. Each person in the home should have his or her own tug toy. Throw a treat and while she goes to get it, pick up the tug toy and put it in your pocket.

It will not make her aggressive. Have anyone ever seen a detection dog at the airport attacking passengers?
