Hi there Curious to know, what age did you de-crate your labs, and how did it go? Bonnie is 16 months now, I’ve always had in the back of my mind that that I’d probably take the crate away at 18 months, but we use it still as a tool, for example if she’s been too excitable around guests... she goes in her crate. She’s not chewing the house anymore, but they like their “den”!dont they Thanks for any advice
Hi @Caro A I de-crated (i'm not sure it is a word but it should be) my black Lab at 12 months, when I was confident that she would not get into any mischief. But as you recognise, one can leave the door open and the dog can come and go as she pleases.
Thank you, I’m keen to get rid of the huge crate in the living room now, but I don’t want to do it too soon, thanks for your advice. Maybe I’ll start leaving the door open first for a couple of weeks. Thank you
7.5 months old might seem a bit young but just felt right crate still there and door open, and he’s never chewed anything. Lee
6 months here. When she started leaving her crate and sleeping in the bed next to it I figured the time was right (for her). For a while she stayed in the kitchen behind the baby gate and then had the run of the kitchen (which is small), lounge and hallway.
