My 6 year old, Tug, started to develop a daily limp so we took to vet and later referred to orthopedic vet. X-rays and Ct scan completed. It was noted he had bilateral elbow dysplasia with the left being far worse than right and the cause of limp. Arthroscopy was performed. NO fragments were found in ct or surgery. They did however remove a bone spur from joint. This was in September. Recover for him was very slow and small improvement seen at 6 weeks. Started to see a great improvement at 8-10 weeks and Tug returned to a somewhat normal life. He is still very restricted: ramps on stairs, nsaids as needed, no running, no rough playing, etc. Well....overnight the limp is back and is as bad as original. No reason or injury to cause. This is such a blow to us seeing that he had made so much improvement! Been giving glucosamine and he is already on Vet bone and joint food. Any experience? Suggestions? Is this just normal with the disease?
I'm really sorry to hear you are dealing with this. I'm afraid I don't have personal experience of elbow dysplasia, but if I were you I'd give the vet a ring this morning and describe the symptoms in case they need to take another look at him. Hopefully it's just a blip and he's a bit sore but it will improve again, do let us know how he gets along.
