When I go into the garden to get wood or something out of the car, and Kira is on the (fenced off) terrace, she whines/cries a lot. Especially when I'm just out of sight. Weird. Yet when I leave (car or bike) she doesn't complain, just when I'm around but out of reach. She sits on the terrace and cries, even if our other dog is with her. When I close the door so she can't go out on the terrace she doesn't mind. So, weird BTW, read about pups biting, our Kira used to bite and I let her, and I said a loud "aw aw" whenever she bit too hard, so after a while she knew just how hard she could bite without hurting one. She bites in the ears and legs of our cats and the other dog and they don't complain so she obviously she knows just how far she can go. The cats go up to her and cuddle her, which is proof
My pup still does this at 10 months, although the intensity is decreasing and he doesn't do it all the time. He is a very chatty dog though, so maybe yours will settle down sooner! He is also fine when we go out. They want to be with you if they can see you. We ignore him and only go back to him when he is quiet.
Hi @Lieve Peten It sounds as if the puppy wants to go with you when you are getting something in the garden. She can hear you but can't see you. When you are on the terrace, she can see you through the glass door and is comfortable waiting for you to come back. The primary thing is that don't give her any attention when she whines. Otherwise you will reinforce that behaviour and the dog will do it even more. Don't even look at her. Wait for her to stop whining before you give her any attention. By all means if she is distressed then see to her immediately.
