    I know one shouldn't anthropomorphise but ...

Dropped Lady off at kennels for a couple of days. She does this very regularly about twice a month in the spring and summer, and once a month in the autumn and winter. So that's about 20 visits a year so she's well used to it.

Routine is that over the couple of days before I'm putting together event paperwork and all the other clutter we take with us so she "knows". On the day (like this morning) I take her for a really long walk and play then back for breakfast. Pick up her favourite toy and lead and call her out to the car. Well!. Very reluctantly out she walks to the car at an absolute crawl, head down, tail between legs and point blank refuses to jump in avoiding eye contact etc. Like a chump I pick her up and put her in the car where she looks up expecting a treat and gets one as I now feel like a real heel. Then we drive the half mile to the kennels and as far as she's concerned she blows the act completely because she actually likes being there and can't wait to get inside. Leaps out of the car and scrabbbles at the gate. Bounds into the office and says hello to everyone then trots round to the kennel as happy as Larry. :D

Now I think that shows a bit of intelligence in pushing my buttons a bit - don't you. ;D

I think it shows she has real character :) She doesn't want to leave you, but if she has to well, she's just going to make the best of it!

I think that sums it up all right. She is pretty much joined to me at the hipduring the day. If I move it's heads up and follow. She's made friends with all the people at the kennels though so I think she knows we will be back for her and it's not so bad there either.

That made me smile David , they do have a way of transmitting their feelings dont they ? Sam does something that makes us laugh every day . I go to the end of our lane with them and have a choice , turn left means that we go to Golitha Falls just up the road where Sam will have a more serious walk or turn right means that we are heading for a field on the edge of the village where he will meet his friends and have a good old play . As I get to the point of choice , he will stare at my face , watching to see which way we go and if I turn right, I swear he looks visibly disappointed and if we turn right, he has a look of joy ::)
Its good to know that Lady enjoys her kennel time though , easier for you to leave her , they are velcro dogs at times :)

Yes a lot of similarities there. She looks at me for direction at divisions in the footpaths and things like that. Quite endearing really. It's good that the kennels are working out ok. We run track days at racing circuits and can't take her with us. She'll be really excited on Friday though. We are going to Cornwall for a week and she loves that. Staying in a dog friendly hotel near Yeovil on the way down on Friday evening. That will be a first for us so fingers crossed!

Ahhhh, bless her - I'm with Pippa - she's making the most but is letting you know that you're the best thing in her life too!

I'm just back from a week away. My friend has my gang while I'm gone so for half the time they are still at home. When I got back last night of course they all went berserk with excitement. A bit later when all had calmed down I was ready to sit for an hour in front of the box before bed. I got everyone settled on their beds next to the sofa, despite Rusty & Teasles' desperation to be on my lap I was firm. Barney was good as gold lying on his bed watching me repeatedly put the other 2 back. All was quiet for about 15 minutes with everyone where they should be. When very calmly and quietly Barney stood up and hopped up next to me. I sad "hey come on get down". Instead he moved my arm with his paw and curled up managing somehow to wrap both front paws around my arm and both back paws. He then rested his head into my upper arm, curled tightly in a little ball clinging onto me with all 4 paws. Could I ask him to get off after that! No way I'm not that disciplined.

    Ah bless Barney!!!

Riley is a bit under the weather and has been very cuddly as a result. Ben is strict though and cuddles are only allowed on the floor :)

Aren't they funny? I had to climb up the ladder into the attic yesterday; Poppy stood at the bottom with a very worried 'Come down, Mum!!' look on her face. When I eventually backed down the ladder, she grabbed my leg with both her front legs and 'helped' me down the last couple of rungs!

Oh bless them all , I do think that Labs are natural worriers at times and also very caring dogs . Sam adores my numerous ( 16 ) grandchildren but the one he sees most of is four year old Silas and from the start , Sam has followed Silas around like a big extra Nanny, very sweet :)

I'm with the others, David, Lady wants to be with you, but if she can't, well hey, there's no point sulking about it!

Took her out for 3 walks today seeing as she is permanently joined to me at the hip these days. The first was her regular morning outing. The second was spur of the moment "come-on girl I've got to go to the bank and we'll go for a quick walk in the wood en route!" It was the 2nd walk that was the problem. She discovered a ditch full to the brim in black goo and leapt in with gusto. ::) Goo now mainly in back of Land Rover.

The 3rd walk was more cautious then the second. Labs !!!!! Doh!
