Can anyone recommend a really low estate car for my dog? I had a little old fiesta hatchback for years, which had no lip to the boot. I had to replace it recently as it was dying, and bought a smart newish fiesta. This has not proved satisfactory, due to a really high lip, deep boot and the back seats don't fold flat!
Isla is eleven and a half now and getting a bit arthritic behind, and has car issues as well, due to a crash we had. If anyone can suggest anything I'd be grateful. I've got to think about insurance and running costs, as I'm living on a tight budget at present. So far I've thought about a Focus estate, VW Golf estate, and saw an interesting looking Kia estate in a car park this morning. Thank you very much.

Hi just a thought, our old lab had arthritis and found it to difficult to get into our Ford Mondeo estate so we purchased a ramp for her at about £100. We worried she would not use it as she was 11 years but she took to it first time and it solved the issue of her getting in and out of the car

Thank you for this - unfortunately she will not use a ramp - we've tried that!

I've got an Astra estate - no lip & fairly low.

Subaru Outbacks and Foresters aren't too high. We always trained our dogs to put their paws up and then we could lift their butt into the Car. We don't have to do it when they are young but it really helps when they get older. Right now Tilly needs help, but Cooper can jump into the bed of a Pickup Truck.

We have a friend who had an old Samoyed that would not allow her to pick up his rear to get him into her car. We made a ramp, and it worked OK, but is was quite large, even though it folded in half. With her next Sammy she trained him to allow being lifted into the car.

Thank you for your suggestions. I've just been and looked at a Focus estate and that seems to have a low back - 12cms lower than my fiesta! But I'm still looking at all types, and your suggestions have been very helpful.
