When we first got Lola at 8 weeks, my husband was deployed. Nighttime in the crate was generally great. Slept in crate right next to me at first then to other side of room. She almost always slept until 6/6:30am. There were times I’d have to get up to take her out earlier and then she’d go back into the crate. Sometimes there was some crying for a short stint others not.

Fast forward to now, at 18 weeks. Husband has been back since she was 14 weeks old. He gets up at 5am and now so does Lola. We’ve dealt with this with other puppies, but they all learned pretty quick to go back to sleep after potty. He takes her out to potty quietly and then puts her back. She then proceeds to howl for the entire hour and a half until I get up at 6:30. At first, I would take her out after a bit, in her momentary break in howling, but she did not have to potty. Back to crate and more howling. She loves her crate. Goes in it fine at bedtime. Doesn’t get up at all during the night. I don’t mind getting up at times during the night, but definitely not in love with the idea of beginning my day at 5am. Neither is our 2-year-old Mastiff lol. Any suggestions?
