Hi all, We have just adopted a rescue dog from Rumania. A lovely black Lab/Pointer cross 1 year and 4 months old. We think she is a bit underweight at around 20kg as you can see a lot of bone. Is there a rough guideline to what is a reasonably healthy weight for a 16 month old? Many thanks. Tim.
I don't think you can put a number on these things, you need to go on how she looks. Have you got a photo from the side and from above you could share? I'm no expert but there are very knowledgeable people on here. I https://goo.gl/images/Zet6Dx
@Ruth Buckley is right - go by body condition, not an absolute weight. She should have a nice waist when viewed from above and a goo tuck-up when viewed from the side. When you run your fingers over her ribs, they should be felt as if through a blanket, not a thin sheet, and you may be able to see the last couple of ribs when she turns. The link Ruth posted is a good visual. W have just had to put a little weight on to our Meg (DalmatianxLabxCollie), she was very ribby, and her pelvis and spine were a bit prominent. She has a good covering now and remains a slim, slight thing.
